Anticipation for Blink 182′s newest record has been forming since they announced their return to the music scene at the 51st Grammy Awards ceremony. It seems like the release date continually gets pushed back, but they have finally begun making some great efforts toward finishing it and are currently in the studio hard at work. I was really excited when I saw this recent modlife video done by Tom Delonge exposing a few seconds of audio from a new Blink track (look around the 5 minute mark) that sounds absolutely awesome:
If that weren’t enough I’ve been following updates from the recording process and was really interested to hear from Mark how they were describing the sound of some of their new songs:
At the studio. The song I started writing yesterday is evolving into a fast, punk-rock jam in the vein of old blink-182. Super excited about this one!! Tracking guitars for it now. This guitar here is the best ever for tight, punchy, distorted tracks. Fender Tele Jr. Suggested and used by our longtime friend and producer Jerry Finn.
He also gave this video update:
And one more quote from Tom mentioning the latest from the studio and his feeling on the styles of each member coming together:
Tom here….had a great day yesterday with the brothers from Blink….we are well deep into the recording process, and I have to say, it is amazing to see all our current styles mixing with each other, and creating a modern version of what you have all been a part of for so long…Mark and Travis are killing it in the …studio, and I am happy to be there as a fan, and as a band member…get ready for summer Dad fuckers
For a while I’ve been worried if Blink still had it in them to put out an amazing record, I mean it’s been so long and they have all branched out into separate musical endeavors. But I think my fears have been settled; the small clip of their new song sounds orgasmic, and they are still staying true to their original sound for some songs and will have a different style for others. I believe this mix of familiarity and new direction will be a great combination that gives us Blink fans an album just as amazing and artistically-inspired as any of their previous ones.
With the new album due out in what seems to be (hopefully) late 2011, a new documentary titled The Blinkumentary also in the works, Mark’s new show A Different Spin, AVA’s album-inspired feature length film, and Travis’s freestyle drumming, the world of Blink’s members has been busier than ever. But with their devotion to the new album and the hard-work, creativity, and what must be a thousand song ideas they have in the works, I am deeply excited to see how my favorite band has grown. I know I can count on these guys to deliver – they haven’t let me down yet. Let’s hope that 2011 gives rise to the greatest Blink 182 album ever created!
