Patricia Day, the lead singer of the Danish punk band HorrorPops is sueing Mattel because she claims that a doll in their “Hard Rock Barbie” collection released last Spring looks exactly like her. The doll is described as having:

“Long black hair, retro tattoos, red fingernails, fishnets and a decorated bass fiddle (to) give this doll true rockabilly style.”

According to Day, Mattel got licenses from several other artists to use their likeness in the doll collection, but never tried to obtain one from her. She is quoted as saying this about the matter:

“her desire to redefine women’s roles in the rock ‘n roll scene — a vision that runs contrary and antithetical to everything for which Mattel’s Barbie doll line stands.”
