Since summer is right around the corner and we all know what that means… Yes, that’s right! No classes, road trips, lazy days, and probably most importantly; summer concerts.
We all know about Vans Warped Tour but let’s talk about the festival that hit the country of Chile this past weekend. For those that don’t know Lollapalooza is an annual weekend concert festival that showcases some the best acts in music ranging from various genres of music. From rock with past acts like Foo Fighters, to techno with Skillex, to Rap and Hip-Hop artists like Kayne West; Lollapalooza definitely has it all. Created by Jane’s Addictions’ singer Perry Farrell, Lollapalooza was originally was made as a goodbye tour for Farwell’s band. Instead he decided to run it annually until 1997 then it was raised from its ashes in 2003. Then after the 2004 cancellation of the tour it came once again in 2005 and has been held annually ever since.
This festival used to travel around to different locations but now it takes part in two main locations throughout the year. Audiences gather from all parts and travel to the first Lollapalooza that is held in Santiago, Chile (sometimes Brazil) which only was announced in 2010. The second Lollapalooza is held in the infamous Grant Park right in the middle of Chicago, Illinois.
This past weekend down in South America, Lollapalooza took Chile by storm and if you go to Lollapalooza Chile’s Facebook page you can see all the craziness that went on. This year’s lineup included acts like Foo Fighters, Arctic Monkeys, Foster the People, and TV on the Radio. Those are only some of the artists who took their place on stage.
Parque O’Higgins (location of Lollapalooza) was packed with travelers far and wide. Some traveling from North America, Europe, and other locations all came to see the festival that has become so well known. Being named one of the top Latin acts to see by The Santiago Times, Lollapalooza is a must see.
Now for those, like myself, who can’t fly down to Chile for a weekend; there’s some good news. Lollapalooza is going to be in Grant Park in Chicago August 3rd- 5th this year! You can go here to purchase tickets. Wondering who’s going to playing this year? Well…we don’t know. BUT! The lineup will be revealed April 11th so check back here at AltRockLive to stay up to date on who will be playing at Lollapalooza 2012 and get your tickets soon!
