Sister Sin is a female-fronted “old-school metal” band from Gothenburg, Sweden. Listening to this record seemed to be more of a monotonous process than it should have been. I am not much of a metal-head by any means, but I was not particularly impressed with this record. Every song sounded almost exactly the same to me and there were points where I couldn’t tell when one song ended and another began. It was also difficult to hear what the lead singer, Liv, is saying at times. There are some saving graces, however. Some of the guitar work is impressive, with some very interesting solos at certain points. The album artwork is also impressive, maintaining the dark gritty image the band seems to be going for.
The best songs off of this album include “Sound of the Underground”, “24/7″, and “The Devil I Know”. While boring me at times, it is still a solid record and I give Sister Sin credit for trying to keep old school metal alive. They show promise, and I feel that they could really start catching people’s attention if they gave their songs a little variety. These could just be based off of my particular tastes, however, and I urge anyone who is a fan of metal to give it a listen and judge for themselves.
